How to use a fire extinguisher

Portable extinguishers are used for quickly extinguishing a fire before the combustion has become extensive. While operating a fire extinguisher and fighting a fire, the User of the fire extinguisher must take proper precautions to minimise personal risks from heat radiation and smoke inhalation. All portable extinguishers are to be operated in the upright position.


While operating an extinguisher follow the PASS principle as explained :


P - Pull the pin.

A - Aim low at the base of the fire.

S - Squeeze the handle.

S - Sweep side to side.
